You can never go too far wrong with a Robert Harris novel. Act of Oblivion follows the true story of two of the signees of Charles I's death warrant, who then fled to the American colonies once Charles II returned and they were declared traitors. A great story, and also shows how unpopular the restoration of the monarchy was in puritan Boston, and how it sowed the seeds for American independence 100 years later.
